QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

The questions we are asked most often — about how we work, our fees, tax deadlines, recruitment screening and how we look after your information. If yours is not here, ask us directly.

GETTING STARTED

Getting started

The practical questions we are asked most often before a first conversation.

How do I get started with The Peninsular 1 Limited?+

Start with a short conversation. Request a consultation or send an enquiry and we will arrange a no-obligation discussion of what you need. If we are a good fit, we will confirm the scope and fee in writing before any work begins.

Do you work with individuals as well as businesses?+

Yes. We look after sole traders, partnerships, limited companies and contractors, as well as individuals who need help with personal tax. The same care applies whether your affairs are simple or complex.

How are your fees structured?+

Wherever possible we quote a fixed fee for a defined scope, so there are no surprises. Work outside that scope is agreed with you first. The initial consultation carries no obligation.

How quickly can you take on new work?+

Usually within a week of approving our engagement letter. Where a deadline is close — an imminent filing, say — tell us at first contact and we will do what we can to prioritise it.

Where are you based, and do you work remotely?+

Our office is in Lagos, Nigeria, and we work with clients across Canada, the United Kingdom and Nigeria by telephone, video call and email, as well as in person where that suits.

TAX

Tax

Registration, filing, advice and planning across the tax lifecycle.

What tax services do you provide?+

The full lifecycle: registration, preparation and filing of returns, day-to-day advisory, and forward planning. That covers self assessment, corporation tax, VAT, PAYE and payroll tax, and capital gains.

Can you deal with HMRC on my behalf?+

Yes. With your authority we act as your agent, handle correspondence and, where necessary, support you through enquiries and investigations — keeping you informed at every stage.

Do you help with VAT registration and Making Tax Digital?+

We do. We advise on whether registration is required or advantageous, register you with HMRC, and set you up with MTD-compatible records and software so filing stays straightforward.

When are tax returns due?+

As general guidance: online self assessment returns and any tax due are submitted by 31 January following the tax year. Corporation tax is normally payable nine months and one day after the end of the accounting period. VAT returns are usually quarterly. Deadlines depend on your circumstances — always check with us before relying on these.

I have missed a filing deadline. Can you still help?+

Yes. Missed deadlines are common and usually manageable. We will establish what is outstanding, bring it up to date and, where penalties apply, advise on the best route forward.

ACCOUNTING & BOOKKEEPING

Accounting & bookkeeping

Accurate records, then the numbers that help you decide.

What does your bookkeeping service include?+

Recording and categorising your transactions, bank and supplier reconciliations, and keeping your records clean, current and VAT-ready. You can hand us a shoebox or a set of ledgers — either works.

Do you run payroll?+

Yes. We handle PAYE registration, RTI submissions, payslips and pension auto-enrolment, and we can produce the payroll reporting you need at year end.

Can you prepare year-end accounts and file with Companies House?+

We prepare statutory accounts and the accompanying corporation tax return, and file with both Companies House and HMRC as part of the service.

Which accounting software do you work with?+

We are comfortable with the common cloud platforms — including Xero, QuickBooks and Sage — and with desktop or spreadsheet-based records. We will work with what you already use, or help you move if that would serve you better.

Can you take over from my current accountant?+

Yes, and we handle the handover for you. We will obtain professional clearance, collect the records, and make sure nothing falls between the two firms.

STAFFING & RECRUITMENT

Staffing & recruitment

Temporary, contract and permanent placements — screened and ready.

What kinds of staffing do you provide?+

Temporary, contract and permanent placements across office, finance, professional and specialist roles. We also cover temporary-to-permanent arrangements when you want to try before you commit.

How does your screening process work?+

Every candidate is interviewed against your brief, and we verify references, right to work and any qualifications the role requires before they reach your shortlist. Our notes come with the shortlist so your time is spent well.

Do you charge candidates a fee?+

Never. Our staffing service is free to candidates — we are engaged and paid by the employer. Anyone asking you for a fee to be put forward is not acting for us.

How quickly can you fill a role?+

It depends on the role and the market, but for temporary cover we can often provide screened candidates within days. Permanent and specialist searches take longer; we will agree a realistic timeline with you up front.

How do employers request staff?+

Complete the employer staffing request form and a consultant will come back to you within one working day. If it is easier, email or call and we will take the details over the phone.

YOUR DATA & PRIVACY

Your data & privacy

How we look after the information you share with us.

How do you handle my CV and personal details?+

Your details are used only to consider you for roles and to contact you about them, and they are held in confidence. Our Privacy Policy sets out exactly what we collect, why, and how long we keep it.

Will you share my details with an employer without asking me?+

No. Your details and CV are never put to an employer without your agreement. If a role looks like a strong fit we will discuss it with you first.

How is my financial information protected?+

Financial and tax information is treated as strictly confidential. Access is limited to the people working on your affairs, transmitted securely, and never sold or shared for marketing.

How do I ask you to update or delete my information?+

Email us and we will act on it. In most cases we can update or erase your records promptly; where the law requires us to retain something — for example, tax records for a set period — we will explain what and why.

Do you use cookies on this website?+

Only the minimum needed to run the site and understand how it is used. Full detail, including how to control cookies in your browser, is in our Cookie Policy.
